Canadian manufacturing sales declined 1.4% in October following a 0.4% increase in September. Sales fell in 12 of manufacturing industries with the largest decline coming in aerospace products and motor vehicle assembly. Adjusting for inflation, Canadian manufacturing sale were 2.4% lower in October.
Sales in the BC manufacturing sector rose 1.8% in October, offsetting a 1.2% decline in September, and were 1.7% higher year over year. The forestry sector, which accounts for roughly 30% of BC manufacturing sales, made a strong contribution to sales growth in October. Pulp and paper manufacturing sales rose nearly 2%, while wood product sales were close to 8% higher month-over-month.
